Plot to derail Megan Young’s victory clarified

A day before the selection and announcement of Miss World 2013, news spread that the Philippine bet, actress and VJ Megan Young, was pictured to be unworthy of the title. Some camps have been reported trying to derail her victory in the pageant that culminates in Bali, Indonesia September 28.

Philippine franchise holder Cory Quirino confirmed what has been circulating in the beauty pageants circle to blogger and former beauty queen herself Joyce Ann Burton Titular.

Joyce Ann wrote in her blog adventuresofabeautyqueen or ABQ on WordPress that Ms. Quirino texted her: JOYCE I NEED YOUR SUPPORT. this is my statement- There has been a smear campaign by a negligible sector of the Ph pageant industry to destroy Megan’s chances for a win in MISS WORLD.  In Bali the mood and aura around Megan is positive and promising. I believe Mrs Julia Morley has explicitly answered this one relentless Anti Miss World Ph person/group to stop emailing the Miss World office as they are proud of all the candidates including Megan. My request to all our countrymen is to consider the honor the Miss World Crown will bring to the country. Lets join hands now to prove that the Bayanihan spirit is strong, alive and above all, genuine.”

The ABQ author said in her comment: “I think I know who this person/group is. If I’m right they are the ones who have been tweeting nasty tweets about our candidate but Cory won’t confirm who this person is. She also has not confirmed exactly what this person/group is bringing against Megan Young. Whatever it is, if  Julia Morley (founder of Miss World) has responded to these emails and has kept Megan Young in the pageant (she has even ranked in the Top 11 of the Beach Fashion and Top 10 of the Top Model Challenge Events) then these people should just stop.

What saddens me is that there are hate-mongers EVEN in beauty pageants. Even sadder is that they are Filipinos hating their own kababayan.

All I can say is this: Laban, Pilipinas! Go Megan and win that crown!”

I commented on her blog that could it be the Binibining Pilipinas camp as the source? Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. used to own the Miss World franchise in the Philippines but was turned over to Cory Quirino in 2011.  Luckily, the first Miss World Philippines (it was called Bb. Pilipinas-World under the Araneta organization) Gwendolyn Ruais placed first runner-up.

Megan reportedly backed out as Binibining Pilipinas candidate this year because of sexy photos published in a local men’s magazine. Binibining Pilipinas is known to be strict with its morality clause in the candidate’s application.

Ms. Burton Titular commented back on my comment: “hi Arlo, no, definitely not. Bb would never do that. Thats my belief. My pageant friends and i have been discussing who kaya but Bb is not in our list of suspects…”

At any rate, Megan is assured of placing in the Top 15 as she was proclaimed  winner  in the Top Model category. She also placed 5th in Beach Fashion (won by Sancler Frantz of Brazil) and 4th in Multimedia (won by Navneet Dhillon of India). In The People’s Champion, Megan was running second as of press time.

Miss World is the only global beauty title not yet won by a Filipina. Evangeline Pascual was first runner-up in 1973 and Ruffa Gutierrez was second runner-up in 1993.

  2. Thanks for the feature Arlo… Well, there is really only one that we suspect. but lets just leave the person unidentified. And may I be more clear? Julia is the Chairman of MW. I tend to call her the founder but it was really her hubby who founded MW. She carried on the job when he passed on. So, correction on myself lang… thanks again!
