During the holidays, while Kris Aquino was on vacation with sons Josh and Bimby in London, entertainment media was abuzz about her imminent transfer, either to GMA7 or TV5.
Her own posts on Instagram fanned the issue, doubling speculations that she’d accept the rumored offer to be TV5 president or she could be going back to GMA7 because she and Bimby are going to be part of the TV version of her co-produced MMFF 2013 blockbuster My Little Bossings.
Some gossip columnists and hosts already pronounced their apprehensions that the Aquinos could easily manipulate the media in case Kris became TV5 president. Furthermore, it was seen to be Kris’ launching pad for the 2016 elections, whether as governor, senator or even as President, taking over the reins of government from her brother.
All of that is water under the bridge now when Kris posted on Instagram on Monday, January 6:
“I have been w/ ABSCBN for 18 years & like any other family we’ve had our ups & downs and sometimes unavoidable ‘tampuhan’— but we remain FAMILY… My manager Deo Endrinal continued talks w/ our ABS bosses during the Christmas break & it is w/ much joy that I share w/ you that we have RENEWED my ABSCBN contract.”
She admitted she met with TV5 chairman Manny Pangilinan (who is her good friend and now the owner of the network previously owned by her cousin, Tonyboy Cojuangco) twice. However, she clarified there was no truth about her meetings with GMA7.
“I never met w/ any GMA officials but I am grateful to them for the generous coverage they gave My Little Bossings, primarily because of their longstanding partnership w/ Vic Sotto & the Eat Bulaga family.”
Kris’ contract with ABS-CBN ended last October.
The GMA7 Sunday afternoon talk show Startalk actually had her in the beginning, along with Boy Abunda and Lolit Solis. The show was an answer to ABS-CBN’s Showbiz Lingo. Then a rigodon happened. Kris and Boy became ABS-CBN’s hosts and Butch Francisco of Showbiz Lingo became Startalk‘s host.
Whether her 700,000-plus Instagram followers heaved a sigh of relief or thought she could bring magic to TV5 is no longer important. What’s important now is that people continue to see her on ABS-CBN in her morning show, Kris TV, and may get to see her hosting game shows again.
Touted as the Queen Of All Media, Kris said that her most important role is being mother to sons Josh (by actor Phillip Salvador ) and Bimby (by ace basketball player James Yap).
Last year, Sisterakas (Kris’ movie with Vice Ganda and Ai-Ai delas Alas) topped the Metro Manila Film Festival. This year, her movie is #1 and Vice Ganda‘s movie Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy is #2.
My Little Bossings continue to rake in hundreds of millions of pesos in gross receipts, consistently being #1 since Day 1. The movie is sure to continue its run in theaters nationwide even as Hollywood holiday blockbusters take over the tills beginning January 8.
It’s also possible that the total gross receipts for this year’s film festival may breach the P1-billion mark as it’s already at P934 million as of January 5, 2014.
