It’s a simple video, declaring he’s home.

Yes, after serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chile, American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta is back home in Utah and getting ready to resume his musical career.

David, ordained Elder Archuleta when he accepted his mission call, started his service in March 2012. Young Mormons are encouraged to serve a mission as “the field is white, all ready to harvest.”

Even before American Idol, David was already known in the music scene when at 12, he became the Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search 2.

Many thought, even eventual winner David Cook, that Archuleta would win. He got 44 percent of the votes, and the difference was wide at five million votes, with Cook getting 56 percent. It’s said that fans got turned off by the overbearing attitude of his father whom he defended as “a great guy” who keeps him grounded.

Archuleta became endeared to Filipinos, especially after his concert with Cook in Manila. He did a series for TV5 titled Nandito Ako (Here I Am) and recorded an OPM (Original Pilipino Music) album—Forevermore—covers and some original songs exclusively for the Philippine market.

He also did a Christmas duet with Filipino YouTube sensation Charice, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Even while in his mission, a pre-recorded album titled Begin, consisting of covers and an original track, Broken, was released in August 2012. In February 2013, a new song, Don’t Run Away, which was leaked online in October 2012, was released on iTunes. It is part of the album No Matter How Far, consisting of tracks previously available only in Asia, which was released on March 26, 2013.

Returning Mormon missionaries are encouraged to get married immediately soon after they get home. But with David’s case, it looks like he will be busy with his music for a while as millions of his followers had been awaiting his return to the scene.

For his Filipino fans, here are the contents of David’s Forevermore album, released by Sony Music:
