Anne Curtis’ ‘AnneKapal The Forbidden Concert’ draws cheers, few sneers

Anne Curtis may not be a great singer but she’s one hell of a performer.

People who buy tickets to her concerts know that fact and they go there to be entertained.

AnneKapal talaga!

In the thick of her preparation for her latest monumental endeavor, Anne said, “I know people don’t go to my concerts to listen to my voice, so I wanna make sure I give them a great show.”

Anne did just that – entertain her loyal supporters and followers to the max – in her AnneKapal The Forbidden Concert at the Araneta Coliseum Friday.

The only other known entertainer who did similar act was Pink

The success of her first, AnneBisyosa (a play on her name being so ambitious), spawned this second, which plays on her name being so thick-skinned or shameless.

Her opening act, death-defying (buwis-buhay in Filipino) a la Cirque de Soleil set the tone of the 2-hour show, swiping at her bashers with TitaniumYou shout it out but I can’t hear a word you say, I’m criticized but your bullets ricochet…

She had moments with guests Robert Sena, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, Vhong Navarro, Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford but the most endearing number was her duet with Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.

Starting with Total Eclipse Of The Heart, Anne stopped after the fourth Turn around and told Regine she can’t take the Songbird singing only the verse for the rest of their number, to which Regine said it’s okay with her, “Malaki naman ibinayad sa akin ni Boss Vic (I got paid much by Boss Vic [del Rosario, Viva Films and Viva Concerts producer]).”

They then proceeded to sing On The Wings Of Love, with Anne showing her immense admiration to the real concert queen.

Araneta reportedly frowned at the idea of Anne doing dangerous stunts in her concert and did not allow it done in the venue, but after several negotiations the Araneta management agreed and gave their nod.

To appease everyone’s apprehensions, the producers secured a multi-million insurance for Anne in her act of navigating the Big Dome buckled up with the same type of harness used in the popular circus production.

She sang the Frozen theme Let It Go and was applauded for hitting the highest note with aplomb. Fans also note that Anne knows the lyrics of her repertoire without the aid of a teleprompter unlike many so-called divas who can’t finish a song without looking at their codigos or cheat sheets.

Days before the big show, Anne controlled her craving for French fries.

Saturday evening, she posted on Facebook:

“Fiiiiiiiinaaaaaaally FREEEEENCH FRIIIIIES and matching caramel sundae to go with it. Cheat weekend + done with my concert! Deserve ko to!!!”

Considered as the Philippine Social Media Queen (4.71 million followers on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/official.AnneCurtis and 6.43 million followers on Twitter @annecurtissmith), Anne, who made a big splash on primetime television recently via Dyesebel, has some detractors, saying one concert was enough, the second is overkill.

Whatever people say now doesn’t matter as Anne Curtis once again proved that despite her limited vocal range or unsingerly tone, she’s the country’s premier entertainer—TV, movies, recording, concert stage and all other media platform.
